Mrs Otunbajo is the Managing Director of Vinci Hair Clinic. A hair treatment Clinic located here Nigeria. Below is an interview with her by Sammi Sikpojie.
- Vinci hair clinic is the only hair loss treatment clinic in Nigeria; tell us about that?
Yes we are extremely proud of the fact that Vinci Hair Clinic is the pioneer in being the only hair loss restoration clinic in Nigeria specialising in hair transplants and the Micro Scalp Pigmentation treatment, but we are also the only hair restoration clinic in the whole of Africa to offer the Micro Scalp Pigmentation Treatment.
- Lots of men and women in Nigeria are suffering from Hair loss; What Hair Loss Treatments are available at Vinci Hair Clinic Lagos?
There is a plethora of treatments available right here in Lagos for stopping hair loss, and in some cases growing hair, for both men and women. These range from medication such as topical Minoxidil and Finasteride which provide essential nutrients to boost thinning hair and right up to the only permanent solution which will make your hair grow – a hair transplant. It really depends on what solution and end result the client is looking for. We find that most men who want the look of a cropped, shaved head of hair are most interested in micro scalp pigmentation. Women tend to go for the hair transplants as the most common hair loss they suffer from is traction alopecia or “mama eko” syndrome. Other medical treatments include the laser cap, PRP treatment and mesotherapy. But one needs to come to the clinic for a free consultation in order for us to determine the most appropriate treatment for the individual.
- So you have surgical and non-surgical procedures, how safe are the surgical ones?
The surgical procedures carried out in our clinic are extremely safe. We have been carrying out hair transplants in the clinic with the highest regard for health and safety. We use state of the art technology and our clients receive the highest level of professionalism, skills and customer care.
- From the consultations that you’ve had, what is the common hair-loss problems Nigerians have?
Apart from the usual male pattern baldness, the most common hair loss type is Traction alopecia (more commonly known as mama eko syndrome), predominantly affecting women. This is usually caused by the extreme pull tension exerted by tight braiding and the damage is mainly restricted to the fringe and sides of the scalp.
- What are the causes of these problems? Natural? The chemicals used?
There are no natural causes of hair loss. Hair loss can either be caused by genetic factors, diseases, infections and inappropriate hair care such as the improper use of corrosive chemical relaxers and/or the constant pulling of the hair during tight braiding or weaving sessions, resulting in a severe loss of hair around the hairline which frames the face.
- You launched an affiliate program recently, what is it about?
It’s a very simple scheme whereby Vinci Hair Clinic will pay a commission to any beauty or hair care expert who recommends their clients to the Clinic, on the proviso that the client subsequently undertakes a procedure/treatment. These are either on the purchase of a laser cap, an MSP or a hair transplant. We will also support them by providing promotional material, access to our expertise etc. Our ultimate aim is to build up a network of partners who believe in good hair care and want the best results for their clients.
- How can interested hair specialists be a part of the affiliate program?
All they need to do is contact us and speak to our staff:

- Are these surgeries and procedures affordable by middle class Nigerians?
Yes they are and Iet me explain why. Our treatments start from N18,000 so there is a treatment for everyone. The more permanent solutions like the MSPs, which last for between 5-8 years, and the transplants are obviously more expensive
- What is the payment procedure for your services like?
We do have credit facilities available. Alternatively patients can pay for their procedure over a period of time and carry out their treatment upon completion. But most people just pay upfront because the hair loss is such an important personal issue for them.
- What has the turn up been like?
Absolutely amazing. We have people contacting us from all over the country and other African countries. People are so excited that such a clinic is available in the country and the most important reason is because the after care is available right here locally.
- What do you have to say to Nigerians that seek this same treatment outside the country?
Why go abroad? Having your treatment undertaken here in Lagos will save you money and time – and in most cases time is money! We are part of a global group with the same access to expertise, our staff are trained centrally, the equipment we use is the same and all this is available to you right here in Lagos. You don’t need to travel abroad for these procedures. We carry out our transplants and MSP procedures right here in Lagos.
